Our economy is on life support. We are turning into a
service nation
and that will make us subservient to those that we provide a
service.
Think about it. Major appliances, TV's, clothes,
electronics, some of
our food, so many things in our life are no longer produced
within
this country.
If you think we can survive as a service economy history is
ready to
prove us wrong. Go out west and look at what happened to
town after
town when the local mines closed. Look at Oil City PA after
the oil
companies moved out or Potter county PA when Adelphia closed
up and
left. Just look at towns like Pulaski, Stillwell, and
countless other
small towns when the local train station shut down.
All of these towns still provided services to their
residents but once
the source of wealth dried up no level of services could
replace the
lost revenues. Any system requires an engine to create hard
goods,
cash, or something to trade.
Wal Marts do not go to towns and the town starts growing.
They go to
towns that are already growing. Rincon Georgia in the 70's
was a quiet
little town, 2 gas stations (I worked at one), no traffic
lights, and
one fast food joint. After the paper mill moved in the town
and the
county boomed. It was that source of wealth that drove the
growth of
Effingham county.
This district does not need more Wal Marts, Lowes, or other
"super
centers" to grow. We need real jobs that will create the
wealth to
attract these types of businesses.
I will work to bring real jobs back to America and back to
the 12th district.
